Mac app for the Nikon ZR
Requant makes your Nikon ZR R3D clips smaller and keeps more of the picture than any other way we measured, at every size. Your footage stays R3D RAW, keeps its file name, and opens in Resolve like the original. Drop clips, pick a card, click Shrink. $19.99, one time.
$19.99, one time. Coming to the Mac App Store and as a direct download. Get told when it's out.
Drop clips or a folder on the app. Pick one card. Click Shrink. That is the whole app. Your originals are never touched. The sizes below are one real 6K clip, 1.77 GB from the camera.
For keying, heavy grading, or archiving the master. Every pixel as the camera recorded it.
1.77 GB becomes 1.66 GB
For most work: YouTube, documentary, and interviews. Half the file, and the picture still holds up in lifted shadows.
1.77 GB becomes 927 MB
For rough cuts, proxies, or clips you will downscale. A quarter of the file. Some grain in deep shadows.
1.77 GB becomes 488 MB
Quality is the point, so we measure it. One 6K clip, 228 frames, decoded with RED's own SDK and checked pixel by pixel against the camera original. Higher dB means closer to the original. At the same file size, Requant kept more of the picture than any other way we tried, at every size.
| Card | File size | Match to original |
|---|---|---|
| High | 1.66 GB | Identical. Every decoded pixel matches. |
| Medium | 927 MB | 52.5 dB |
| Low | 488 MB | 48.0 dB |
Lift the shadows 3 stops and the Low card stays smooth where other files of the same size go blotchy. All three cards took about 7 seconds for the whole clip on an M3 Pro, on the CPU alone. Your originals are never changed.
A Mac on macOS 15 or newer, and R3D clips from a Nikon ZR.

One email when Requant is on sale. It lands in the same newsletter as the rest of my work.
